Karambo Primary School

The Karambo Primary School was started by Nelco Tumwesigye who grew up in Karambo and now works in the tourist industry in Kabale town. The school is in an idyllic location on Lake Buynyoni, but is very basic. The structures are ‘temporal’ (mud and straw walls, no window panels and not many desks/seats per classroom).

Given the location and the climate of the area - with rainfall a daily occurrence during most of the year- pupils are suffering from respiratory and other health conditions due to the permanent damp and cold conditions in the classrooms where they spend most of the day.

We plan to fundraise and in collaboration with the school’s PTA (Parent/teacher association) built permanent structures for classrooms, teacher accommodation, toilets, etc.
